About
Hey I’m Sophie! I’m a twenty-something with a full time job, part time MBA program, live in boyfriend and commitments until the end of next week, but I still find time to get in the kitchen and make a meal almost every night. Can I show how easy it is to shop, cook, and entertain, all on a budget? Challenge accepted!
My love for all things gastronomical comes from my childhood with a talented mother who made a home cooked meal every night. When I moved out after college I realized it was time to learn some new skills and make sure I eat healthful, fresh food so I have the energy to keep up with my busy life.
I have lived a mostly gluten-free lifestyle since I was a senior in college. I should be totally gluten free, but there are some things I just can’t give up (soy sauce!). I suffer the consequences, but at least I know to think before I take a bite. I’ll share my favorite gluten-free recipes that even wheat-lovers can get into.
I was born in London, grew up in Connecticut and went to Syracuse University (Go Orange!) where I studied TV and Film. After graduating, I moved to Brooklyn. I have always considered myself a New Yorker due to my mentality (fast walking, iPod wearing, coffee drinking) and worked in media for 2 years. After company lay-offs in 2009 I decided to move to Boston, save some money, and advance my education.
I live with my boyfriend, referred to as Z, on the outskirts of the city and work for a local medical school. Managing the skills and the time to feed two busy, working law and business students is what prompted me to start blogging.
I hope this will be a resource for you to find the courage and the motivation to get into the kitchen, whether you are cooking for yourself or a dinner party of friends. The edible world is an adventure to be taken by storm, so let’s get cooking!

Hey great to find your blog! I lived in London before I moved to Boston
Hi Sophie, it was nice to meet you today! Good to know you are gluten free; I am not but one of my best friends is, and she also shares my love of cooking, so we’re often experimenting together with gluten free baking and stuff.
I’m an SU grad too! Getting excited for the Syracuse Nova game coming up. Great blog.
Like your blog!!! I am a GF foodie too! But like you…I am probably only about 90% GF. There are definitely some things I can’t give up either and yes sometimes I totally just go on a gluten splurge, feel like crap and then remember why I am GF! haha!!
Just found you via Cara’s blog. I too tend to suffer from WSS! I also went to SU, graduated in ’92. Loved my time spent there. I love Boston, ran the marathon in 2005, sooooo fun
Nice to meet another Boston blogger!
I hope you’re enjoying living in this city. I’ve been here since I started college in 2001.
Hi Sophie, love your blog! I’m from Syracuse, lived in Boston, and currently live in Manhattan…somewhat similar! Take care.
Hello Sophie! I just came across your blog via The Ultimate Recipe Showdown & Kirsten’s blog site.
I’m looking forward to going through your site…new to blogging, but absolutely love meeting new people and trying their recipes.
Come by for a visit sometime!
~Tanya

Hi there, glad to find your blog. I am embarking on a gluten-free lifestyle soon because of a strongly suspected gluten intolerance and am so hoping I feel better after years of suffering. I am going to be interested in following your blog and how you do it!

It is such a pleasure to read about your food and academic adventures. Since about 1985, my is diet clean eating, mostly vegetarian, although I am never able to resist trying something new on the food front. Currently I am revamping my Personal Coaching website and I am becoming a registered yoga teacher. I am so excited to read about your adventures in numbers and culinary delights.
Hi Sophie! I also went to school for Film/TV and then ended up switching careers and getting my grad degree in something else.
hi Sophie, love that you are overly busy with life but letting people know that home cooking is not as hard as we think. I too was blessed with an awesome Mom who was just as busy but still cooked every night! We now have a restaurant together and are finally working on a cookbook so people who will never make it to NE Oregon can at least enjoy our food from their own kitchen!!
By the way, if you can get Western Family Soy Sauce – it is gluten free!!! Keep on writing – we all have people to inspire!
